Dec. 26, 2017—A car dealer near Albany, N.Y., has started allowing clients to use Bitcoin for purchases.

Michael Severance, sales manager at Michael’s Auto Plaza, told WTEN-TV that the dealership recently started accepting the digital currency.

Severance said he wanted his dealership to take advantage of a form of currency that has growth potential.

“Certain things boom and they just take off, they take off quick,” Severance told the TV station. “You have to capture it while it’s hot.”

Bitcoin is a virtual currency that isn’t connected to banks or a government, and allows consumers to spend money anonymously.

“If you can use [Bitcoin] to buy a house or buy a large piece of property, why not an automobile?” Severance said.
