Hyundai Hires Industry Vet to Head U.S. Dealerships

Oct. 24, 2017—Hyundai Motor America named Brian Smith its Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective Oct. 25. 

Smith will be responsible for all aspects of Hyundai's U.S. operations, including its corporate and product strategic direction, sales, marketing, customer satisfaction and dealer development.

Smith joins Hyundai after more than 30 years with Toyota and Lexus with experience in sales, marketing, dealer development and regional operations.

During his career at the automaker he held numerous leadership positions, most recently as the vice president of retail transformation for Toyota USA. Previous positions at Lexus included the vice president of marketing and prior to that, the vice president of sales and dealer development.

He also had responsibility for Toyota sales, truck marketing, field operations and special events throughout his career.
