Advanced Battery Concepts to License Bi-Polar Battery Tech
Jan. 20, 2017— Advanced Battery Concepts (ABC) announced on Thursday that it will provide a license to Johnson Controls for a bi-polar battery technology with the goal of future product commercialization.
The non-exclusive global licensing deal is for ABC's GreenSeal technology. It is a new way to construct a battery that provides several advantages, including an improved vibration durability, greater cycle-life performance and a simplified approach to higher-voltage applications.
"Our GreenSeal technology simplifies manufacturing processes in lead-acid bi-polar batteries while simultaneously improving battery performance," said Dr. Edward Shaffer, CEO and founder of Advanced Battery Concepts.
In bi-polar batteries, electrical conduction occurs through the same plate, whereas conventional lead-acid batteries use a strap to transfer positive and negative electrons between plates.
The two companies executed the agreement in December.
