Staff Spotlight: Lucia Sousa
Since attending a technical high school and learning how to detail cars, Lucia Sousa came on at Gallery Collision Center in Norwood, Mass., to learn more skills in the auto industry and create a peer accountable atmosphere with her co-workers. Sousa, a pre-ops specialist, continues her apprenticeship as a repair planner while training new employees at the shop’s second location.
“She is quickly becoming our company part trainer and her attention to detail and diligence have fostered an environment of peer accountability and excellence in all things parts related,” says Tim Johnson, store leader at Gallery Collision Center.
While Sousa has been at the company for only a year and a half, she says there are a few things that have led to her quick success:
- She focuses on bringing a positive and helpful attitude into work every day. Beyond being a hard worker, Sousa says fostering a team environment where everyone gets along, jokes around and has fun together has been key in ensuring both that all individuals and the team as a whole is successful.
- If a mistake occurs, Sousa is there to immediately find out the source. If the wrong part gets ordered or a part goes missing, she says she investigates and talks with the repair planner who wrote the part estimate or calls the local vendor.
“I don’t like to leave the day without taking care of everything,” Sousa says.
- While Sousa juggles administrative duties, parts orders and writing estimates, she says the key to her successful multitasking is to use her fellow employees as resources for help. She asks if she can be of help and does not hesitate to go to others for advice. In her short time at the shop, Sousa has been called the “Swiss Army Knife” due to her ability to quickly take on a variety of tasks and get them done quickly.
- Working thoroughly to avoid mistakes. Sousa says she is diligent when it comes to mirror matching parts as soon as they came in to make sure the parts aren’t damaged or incorrect. She also makes a note that they were received in the system so everyone in the company is aware.
